What do I bring to my boudoir shoot?

One of the biggest questions I get about boudoir is … what do I bring to my boudoir photoshoot?

A boudoir photoshoot is a chance to celebrate your body and all of its unique qualities. It's a chance to embrace your curves, imperfections and all, and to see yourself in a whole new light- to bring out your inner badass.

But preparing for a boudoir photoshoot can be intimidating, especially if you're not sure what to bring.

In my years' of experience, here are some fool-proof things I’ve found are ALWAYS a hit:

  1. Lingerie and other outfits.

LINGERIE! Always a classic. Think about the looks and styles that make you feel confident and sexy, and don't be afraid to mix and match pieces. Now, it can be the typical lace, strappy numbers or you can make it more trendy with high-wasted pieces, boy shorts, or a sports bra. My only recommendation? Make sure none are too tight and you feel sexy in it!

  2. Textures.

Some of my favorite shots include items that super non-traditional for boudoir. Think ripped jeans and a white tank (with no bra), a chunky knit sweater with undies, legs exposed, or even a bathing suit cover up! Fabrics with texture always photograph beautifully, so have fun and bring some creativity to your shoot!

  3. Shoes.

Obviously everyone thinks of sexy heels and those are great, buuuuut, you don't necessarily need to wear heels for your boudoir photoshoot. Often our shoes are a huge reflection of us.. love your well-worn converse? Bring em! Those ballet flats or boots that you have a huge connection with work too. Your session should reflect you, but keep it simple. Less is always more, especially in boudoir ;)

  4. More modest pieces.

Plenty of clients come in feeling shy and unsure about nudity in their photos. I’m here to reassure you that you do NOT need to go there, if you aren’t sure… you can always play it by ear as the shoot progresses. I always start with the most modest outfit, so that super sexy dress you love, a satin robe, a black blazer or a white shirt are also great options we can start with. I keep my clients comfort level at front of mind, you will walk away feeling confident and we will get gorgeous shots of you, that’s the most important thing!

  5. Your favorite playlist.

We are big fans of music to set the mood, and you having a personalized playlist that makes you feel confident and sexy is a GREAT tool. Not a playlist person? No problem, we have. a few that we have curated to be the perfect selection for our purposes.

  6. A positive attitude.

Your mood is definitely reflected in your photos. We want all your worries and stress to melt away the moment you are in my studio. Be open, but relax, we’ve got you. The more you can surrender to the process and have fun, the more your personality will shine and result in stunning images.

So there you have it – a few things to consider bringing to your boudoir photoshoot. Whether you're doing it for yourself or someone special, a boudoir photoshoot is a chance to celebrate your body and all of its unique qualities. So don’t worry about what to bring, your birthday suit is ALWAYS with you ;)

A presto!
