I never did this in my 20s, why boudoir NOW?

Chichas, I get it, I did MY first boudoir session in 2021, when I was strictly shooting dignified portraits of middle-aged women (like me) and was curious and drawn to the genre. I had been working out, turned a corner in my business and wanted to shoot with a specific photographer I respected. You can read about it here. Basically, I said f*uck it and paid more than I ever thought I would for what I thought, was just a shoot and an album. Mamma mia, was I ever wrong, the experience was truly life-changing, and once I realized every woman should have.

Here’s why… boudoir photography is a form of intimate portraiture that celebrates the beauty and sensuality of the female body. It has become increasingly popular in recent years as women seek to empower themselves and embrace their femininity. The experience of a boudoir photoshoot can be life-changing, providing a range of benefits that go far beyond just capturing beautiful photographs. Here are just some of the after effects I experienced and now see my clients have time and time again:

  1. Boosts self-confidence One of the most significant benefits of a boudoir photoshoot is the boost it provides to your self-confidence. Women who participate in boudoir photography often report feeling more comfortable in their own skin and more confident overall. The process of preparing for a boudoir photoshoot can be an empowering experience, as you take the time to pamper yourself, select the perfect outfits (or lack there of), and prepare for the shoot. Because a good photographer will guide you through the process, guiding and posing you, you will feel comfortable and confident. The end result is a set of beautiful, intimate portraits that capture your unique beauty and sensuality.

  2. Improves body positivity. So many women come into my studio with body image issues asking how much I retouch, but a boudoir photoshoot can help to improve your relationship with your body. By embracing your femininity and celebrating your curves, you can begin to see your body in a positive light. The process of a boudoir photoshoot can help to break down negative thought patterns and promote self-acceptance. A great photographer will spot how the light hits that shoulder, or spot in your clavicle, or a divot in your lower back that is beautiful and you maybe never noticed… helping achieve that appreciation and wonder for your own body.

  3. Creates an intimate, artistic keepsake. A boudoir shoot results in a beautiful, sensual album or wall art that you can keep forever. These portraits can serve as a reminder of your beauty and femininity and be a source of inspiration and self-confidence for years to come. Sometimes clients come before a wedding or an anniversary (to be honest, not often) because the truth is that a boudoir album can make a unique and personal gift for your significant other, serving as a testament to your love and attraction.

  4. Promotes self-expression and empowerment. Girl, you got this and you are art. In a boudoir shoot, we share, sometimes cry, and always dance, because boudoir photography is a form of self-expression, allowing you to embrace your femininity and showcase your unique beauty. By booking a shoot you are taking control of your self-talk and promoting a positive body image. The experience can be incredibly empowering, helping you to feel more confident in yourself and your femininity.

  5. One thing I never considered before doing a boudoir shoot is that it a form of self-care. Because it allows you to focus on yourself and your well-being. The process of preparing for the shoot including pampering yourself and selecting the perfect outfit can help to promote feelings of self-love and self-acceptance. I had my hair done, had a hydra facial, went shopping and bought a killer corset at Zara that I subsequently forgot (facepalm), but hey! I’ve worn it since and always remember that feeling of nerves and excitement! Additionally, the end result is that you will feel so sexy and validated as the badass woman that you are.

  6. It’s an experience that is unlike any other. A boudoir shoot is one of those experiences you never forget, you tell your girlfriends about and want to do again! Why? Who knows… for me? it was seeing myself through the eyes of an artist. Seeing my curves, those so called “problem areas” I wasn’t keen on, and my 40+ year old body as the incredible vessel it has been for me. It also provides an opportunity to celebrate your femininity and embrace your sensuality in a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, the process of preparing for the shoot and working with a professional photographer can be a fun and exciting experience.

Insomma (In conclusion), a boudoir photoshoot is so much more than sexy pictures, from boosting self-confidence and promoting body positivity to creating a unique keepsake and enhancing self-care and self-love. If you need a way to empower yourself and/or celebrate something (or your body), book the shoot. The experience can be life-changing, and the results will be a beautiful, intimate reflection of your killer beauty and sensuality. Prometo!
