Why professional hair and makeup?

Often before a shoot, clients are surprised to hear that I always offer professional hair and makeup with my photoshoot experiences. Sometimes, women are resistant because they are picky or because they like a very natural look. And, hey, I get it. I’m the same but, being honest, every woman comes in a little nervous, a little apprehensive and unsure, then she sits in the hair and makeup chair, and all her troubles melt away. Something about the soft touch of the brushes or Lisa’s voice relaxes them and by the time they are done with hair and makeup, they are READY for the close up! All that to say, hair and makeup is awesome and Lisa is who makes it happen.

If you’ve been to my studio, you’ve most likely met Lisa. She is my go -to hair and makeup artist. Lisa is amazing, not only in her craft (which she is!) but as a woman, wife, and mom. Since I met her, we have worked together seamlessly and she has never let me down or disappointed a client. Everyone needs a Lisa in their life- she’s is one of my biggest cheerleaders and has been instrumental in the growth of my business! I have now been working with her for almost 4 years. Here’s a little information about her straight from her website:

You get the idea, she’s amazing and we are lucky to have her but the real reason I LOVE to work with her? She’s kind, patient, listens and connects with my clients, and is super empathetic. All that in a beautiful package full of class. She helps elevate my studio, and that is all I could ask for in my team!

So I asked her some of the same questions I am asking many clients, and here are her responses:

What does beauty and strength mean to you ?

There is nothing more beautiful or stronger than a woman being unapologetically herself, comfortable in her perceived imperfections, who knows she can fall, pick herself back up and move on.

How do you spend your day? Usually working 😉. If I have a free day, I love to do yoga, play pickleball(obsessed) or go for a long walk/hike with a dear friend. At the end of my evening I go over the day and make sure I have stayed true to my mantra to always be kind, considerate and to treat others as I would like to be treated.

What has your confidence journey been like? Longgg ( Ha ha). Still working to get there. Have come a long way from a young girl with social anxiety. Gets easier with age I am noticing. For the past few years I have made a true effort to stay in my own lane and not to compare myself to others. Everyone is on their own journey.

What obstacles have you overcome? One has been overcoming social anxiety and severe shyness in high school/college. Now I’d say I am an extroverted introvert. So that’s progress. As far as work is concerned, I became a top production makeup artist in Minneapolis and Austin through a lot of putting myself out there and not giving up every time I heard the word “no” or “maybe next time.”

What are character traits you admire in other women?

That’s easy! Kindness, Humor, Compassion, Cheerleader for other women, Ability to be present and open.

What are your favorite memories of childhood? I grew up on the coast of North Carolina. Some favorite memories are running around the neighborhood with friends until dark, Fireflies, Digging sharks teeth out of the asphalt roads in the summer, Frying eggs on the road, Climbing trees, going out on our boat, waterskiing , oyster roasts and helping my mom in her garden.

What is your favorite music?  80’s/90’s alternative all the way, throw in some good ole southern rock for my complete spotify list.

What is something surprising about you that people would never guess? There’s quite a few. I do not like to shop ..at all!! I am an avid reader(not sappy books though) ,I’m a true crime devotee and I’m obsessed with Greek and Egyptian history.

See? Isn’t she a doll? If you are coming in, trust me- you are in for a treat! You will LOVE Lisa as much as we do!
